The adage about a builder never completing his own home, is disproved by Jack’s own beautiful five bedroom family home in High Street Southbridge.
“Only took a year”, he says. Started in April 2014, the end result is a stunning, functional, architectural family home open plan dining and living rooms. “More of a barn style dining and living area with exposed rafters and rough sawn macrocarpa timber beam reclaimed from demolished earthquake damaged buildings.
This hand picked structural beam is wire brushed to enhance the saw cuts and grain of the timber and is the apex of the sloping high stud room which peaks at 4 metres high descending to 2.9 metres, before tailing to a standard 2.4 metre high stud.
Adding an expanse of height gives the whole area a roomy lofty feel with modern rustic touches.
Ceiling cladding between cedar rafters, is macrocarpa tongue and groove.
Oak 'antique' tongue and groove flooring provides a real warmth under foot and adds to the character of the living area with visible knots and natural holes in the floor.
