Owners: Sally & Alan Trenberth

Architect: Wayne Seebeck Design

Builder: Dewhirst Construction
Building a new home on the same site as the house she grew up in, Sally Trenberth and her husband Alan, chose Dewhirst Construction for the $800,000 timber and Coloursteel ™ project.

Beginning in June 2016, the build took seven months and the Trenberth’s went out of their way to find a builder who could achieve their vision on the 400 sq metre section.

The couple spotted Jack Dewhirst’s own home in Southbridge and approached him to ask who the builder was.

“Well I had to say it was me,” Jack says. And so began a partnership to build the Trenberth family home.

The Merivale Lane site was previously Sally’s parental home, left to the her and her sister. Having bought out her sisters’ share, the homestead was pulled down to make way for the new.

Being an interior designer, Sally had an eye for reclaiming and recycling unique features of the old house to incorporate with the new.
Reclaimed leadlight windows were re-used in the downstairs ensuite and upstairs white tiled bathroom complete with separate bath and shower makes the use of all the sun with an automated skylight. Separate toilet room and handbasin include a whimsical wallpaper adding colour and dimension.

The two-storey, three bedroom home, has two bedrooms and a large office upstairs and one bedroom downstairs along with open plan dining and living rooms and a functional modern kitchen.

The ground footprint of 165m2 of the 400 sq m section that allows enough room for landscaping and outdoor living areas. The exterior is clad in long run vertical Coloursteel ™ and bevel back stained cedar weatherboard.

The decked balcony area above the garage that allows for perfect summer entertaining and to make the most of the evening sun.

Stylish, modern and maximised this two storey home combines clean good looks with pure functionality. “I think it works perfectly,” Jack says.
